Mrs. Reed

Hello!

I'm Ms. Reed. This will be my eighth year of teaching, and my fifth year at Aurora Academy. Before I came to Aurora Academy, I worked in Englewood Schools as a 6th grade and Kindergarten teacher. I received my Bachelor's degree  in 2006 and completed my teaching program in 2012, both from from Metropolitan State University.

Behaviors and Expectations:

Students are expected to be present and ready to learn every day. We have so much to do in 5th grade! Please have your student to school by 7:55am, which is out new start time. Students should be in uniform and ready to learn at this time. Students who are habitually out of uniform will be issued a behavior reflection.

We have quite a few bathroom breaks within our school day, most are before and after each class. Because we have so much to cover in 5th grade, we try to time bathroom breaks to be minimally disruptive. The students are allowed to use the bathroom before 8:00am, during passing periods, at Specials, during snack time, at lunch and recess, and right before dismissal. That's at least seven chances to use the restroom throughout the day. They may also use these times to fill up their water bottles. Frequent and excessive use of the bathroom is missed instructional time, and is disruptive to the learning environment, so we try to keep bathroom breaks to those non-instructional times. Of course, if it is a true emergency then students will be allowed to go outside of those times.

Students are also expected to treat everyone with kindness and respect. We are a community and as such need to feel safe and heard while at school. I model and foster this daily, and expect kindness and respect from them towards each other and myself.
