Resources for families losing their status or going through detention
Situations
Please review the Resources for Immigrant Students and Families website for a comprehensive list of community resources for immigrant families. Some of the newest resources that have been added to our website are also listed below.
Legal Resources:
Families may want assistance adjusting their immigration status to remain in the United States after TPS expires. Individuals may consider reaching out to some of the following legal resources to ask about options for legal help:
• Catholic Charities of Denver
• ECDC African Community Center
• Lutheran Family Services of the Rocky Mountains
• Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center
• Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network
Please note APS cannot offer official legal advice to families. The suggested community legal offices above do not serve as an endorsement of legal services.
The Spring Institute can connect individuals to Immigration Attorneys for one-on-one support for immigration related matters to get clear information about their specific options. This flyer offers more information on this service.
ICE Detention Resources:
If any families are concerned about facing ICE detention, consider sharing
with them the Know Your Rights: Five Things Parents Detained by ICE Should Know Fact Sheet from the Center for Law and Social Policy.
For Frequently Asked Questions regarding child welfare, family detention, or deportations, please review this FAQ guide from the Colorado Center on Law and Policy. This document outlines the state’s role in child/youth welfare, the importance of a family protection plan, the role of county human services, reunification efforts, and options for kinship
care.
Family Preparedness Plans
Family preparedness plans, while optional, are one of the best ways for families to prepare for an immigration emergency situation. English and Spanish versions of a family preparedness plan template are provided by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.
APS continues to be committed to supporting and welcoming all students, regardless of their immigration status.
