I earned my BA in Elementary Education from the University of Wyoming in 2000. In the past, I’ve taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades as well as middle school math. All but two years of my teaching career have been in a charter school setting. While working at a k-12 charter school in Westminster, I wrote and published three history units and one science unit for the Colorado Core Knowledge Foundation. In 2008, I earned my MA in Administration and Supervision.

I joined the Aurora Academy family in 2015 as an assistant principal and in 2018 transitioned into my current role as principal.

I graduated from Pratt Institute in NY with my BFA in Illustration and art education in 2003. From there I spent my first year in education working at Washington Montessori School as an assistant teacher in a 6-9 year old classroom and a part time middle school art teacher. It was there that I realized how art could help me in teaching all subject areas and pursue my passion for educating children and giving all the opportunities they deserve. That was when I went to the University of Bridgeport for my MSED. After getting a second teaching license, this time in elementary education, I went on to teach in Washington, D.C.; Brookfield, CT; Heidessheim am Rhein, Germany; New Milford, CT; New Haven, CT; and finally Kingman, AZ.

During my time as a teacher, I taught every grade level K-6 and also 9th grade art. I became interested in the idea of administration when I was inspired by a principal who was very involved in the day to day life at the school. I went on to become the Teacher on Assignment Dean of Students to see what administration would be like first hand. I loved it so much and found that my ability to reach and help students was so much greater in that role than it had ever been before. I then went to Western Governors University and graduated in 2021 with my MSEDL. With that degree I was promoted to Assistant Principal at Desert Willow.

I am excited to have been given the opportunity to be the Assistant Principal here at Aurora Academy beginning this school year. I look forward to meeting everyone and serving this community as an advocate for the children.

I am excited to be the 5-8 grade assistant principal at Aurora Academy. In the past, I have taught grades 5-12 as a science teacher. My leadership experience began as a high school science department head, dean of culture and instruction, instructional coach, and assistant principal. I have had the opportunity to teach in various parts of the country (Memphis, TN, New Olreans, LA, Tampa, FL, Louisville, KY and Denver, CO). The past three years I served as the assistant principal at Ricks Center for Gifted Children. Prior to that, I served as the Dean of Culture at Boston p-8 and the Dean of Instruction at Aurora Central High School. I hold a bachelor’s degree in secondary science education from Mississippi State University, master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Denver and am currently seeking an EdD from the University of Denver with a focus on equitable and social justice centered curriculum and instruction. It is an honor to be back serving as a school leader in Aurora and looking forward to the opportunity to support the Aurora Academy community. Go Falcons!

I am grateful to be in my 8th year at Aurora Academy, as I thoroughly enjoy watching our students grow over the years. I have been very lucky to have been in several roles at this school over the years. I believe that all my experiences allow me to serve this school to the best of my ability.

I received my Bachelor's in Education from Kansas State University. During my time as a 2nd grade teacher, I went back to school to earn my Master's in Education from Walden University. This year will be my 17th year in education, and I can't even believe how the time has flown. As I continue with my role of Director of Curriculum and Assessment, I find myself relying heavily on my past experiences in education as a 2nd grade teacher, a 4th grade teacher, reading interventionist, and instructional coach.

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending my time with my husband and two boys.  We are a very active family who enjoys taking advantage of all the beauty and activities Colorado has to offer.  I may not be a native, but I sure am grateful to be here, as I am in my 17th year of being a Colorado resident.
